The New Town
Grand Junction see a big change in its infostructure for the future.
Whitman Park
Historically used by the homeless to gather. The city is the ultimate master of the park with a broad idea of what needs to happen. There is money to support the homeless in their path towards recovery. The park needs to be able to be used by the entire community not just the homeless people. A larger mission to build supportive resource buildings by private companies with additional land and buildings being leased by the city. This park has been way to stagnant for way to long.
The Voice of the Community
The community reaches out with ideas for the new park. This is the city putting together a master plan. This is the development of the park in progress. The city doesn’t know when it is going to reopen. It can be hard to get everyone’s input on what should happen with t eh park. At the same time there is a lot of optimism about people actually using the park. Its like we are just building a better park for the homeless to use. This town has always had a problem with the homeless community and giving them a new park is hardly a way to solve this old problem.
The FUTURE is here..
Make the river accessible from the park, cutting a distinct path to the river from the downtown area. A lot of the ideas are fun and include stone structures the are medieval in nature or even Greek with discussion of being able to bring something iconic and beautiful to the community. Hoping to have events and program the space both with private and county working together.

What our citizens have to say…
“I have seen a lot happen to the old park. I grew up in Delta and would drive into town and think how abandon and run down this town was. I wanted to have a meaningful impact so I surveyed and gave my opinion to the city.”

What our citizens have to say…
“I used to buy weed there, pills, meth, you name it.
I started using meth in that park in HS.
Someone killed a dealer in that park bathroom then snuck the body out in broad daylight they took it to a pickup truck and that was the last we ever saw the body or the truck.”
